The first host-family party,
which was organized by the Alumni Association of the Department
of Civil Engineering, University of Tokyo, was held on July
13th 2001. There were about 50 participants who
were the hosts, students and organizers. The party started
from the introduction by Prof. Toshio
Koike, the alumni manager.
And the president of the alumni association, Prof. Nobuyuki
Tamai made speech in the party. Dr. Hiroshi Hori, the member
of Tokyo Koishikawa Rotarian Club, our graduate of 1944, addressed
in the party on ‘Our Experience to have Served for the Consolation
and the Encouragement of the Foreign Students in the Civil
Engineering Department of Tokyo University’.
The Alumni Association of
the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Tokyo initiates
the new host family program from the summer semester of 2001,
which is transferred from the previous host family program
organized by the Tokyo Koishikawa Rotarian Club. The hosts
in the new program are from the graduates of the Civil Engineering
Department of University of Tokyo and the members of the Tokyo
Koishikawa Rotarian Club. The alumni office takes works to
mach the foreign students who are studied in the Civil Engineering
Department of Tokyo University with the voluntary host families.
The principle of this program is to offer a chance to foreign
students for learning from Japanese people in different fields
out of the university.
It was a successful party,
and everybody enjoyed very much. From 18:00 to 21:00, the
three-hours party seems to be too short for the students since
they have too many things to discuss with their hosts. With
successful experience, the alumni association plans to arrange
the next party in the winter semester after the new foreign
students enter on October. We are looking forward to seeing
many new hosts and new students join this host family program.
And the alumni association is willing to receive your comments
and suggestions on this program.
